This new rhapsody 16” archtop is the most versatile archtop i have ever made. acoustically the guitar has a strong, loud volume but more importantly the sweetest midrange and highs we all crave in a good acoustic archtop. what makes this guitar different is it has 2 pickups systems: the james may ultra tonic acoustic pickup system AND MIXER BOARD and our signature magnetic PAF Alnico 5 Pickup. it truly crosses the lines between a true acoustic archtop tone and a warm jazz tone. tHE BLENDER BOARD IS LOCATED UNDERNEATH THE PICKGUARD AND HAS 3 THUMBWHEELS. tHE FIRST THUMBWHEEL IS THE BLENDER CONTROL. ALL THE WAY TOWARDS THE FINGERBOARD IS JUST THE ULTRA TONIC, ALL THE WAY TOWARDS THE TAILPIECE IS JUST THE MAG AND ANYWHERE IN THE MIDDLE IS A BLEND OF BOTH PICKUPS. YOU CAN ADD JUST A LITTLE OF THE ACOUSTIC PICKUP TO THE MAG FOR A NICE SPARKLE OR FOR A MORE ACOUSTIC TONE USE MOSTLY THE ACOUSTIC PICKUP WITH JUST A LITTLE MAG thrown in OR ANYWHERE INBETWEEN. sUPER VERSATILE AND EASY TO FIND THE PERFECT SETTING FOR WHATEVER TONE YOU ARE LOOKING FOR. THE SECOND THUMBWHEEL IS THE TREBLE FOR THE MAG PICKUP. THE THIRD THUMBWHEEL IS THE VOLUME FOR THE MAG PICKUP. the ultra tonic is the closest i have ever heard a pickup on an archtop sound like that of a mic’d archtop. whether you play jazz or popular music this guitar has a sound that is truly spectacular. it would be totally at home for folk or americana and would add a new dimension for bluegrass and avant garde styles. clean and understated this guitar is a true beauty and a dream to play.
